Former RAF chaplain is new pri

AN RAF chaplain who blessed Prince William’s wings has left the military to become Up Hatherley’s priest in charge.

The Rev Richard Dunstan-Meadows, who accompanied RAF and Army personnel to Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan, is retiring after 15 years as forces chaplain to move to the Cheltenham parish.

The 47-year-old joined the army as a trooper in 1983 and for three years served as a tank crewman with the then 16th/ 5th The Queen’s Royal Lancers. After leaving, he studied priesthood in the Church of England and returned to his military roots in 1995 as chaplain.

He was sent to Northern Ireland and spent two years based in Omagh, before he was posted to Nicosia, Cyprus, to be the HQ British Contingent Chaplain with the United Nations.

Mr Dunstan-Meadows transferred to the Royal Air Force in 2000 and was posted to RAF Benson two years later. In 2006 he went to Afghanistan and served two-and-a-half months at Kandahar Air Field. He said: “I feel I’ve done my bit.
